Last week our Group Marketing Manager Gareth was asked by the Professional Cricketers Association to provide his transitioning story and advice to current cricketers at the annual Futures Conference, designed to help preparation for a future after cricket.

The 2019 PCA Futures Conference saw current and former county professionals and England internationals prioritise an action plan for life after cricket at St. George’s Park.

The annual two-day event was held at the Football Association’s impressive national training facility as the centrepiece of the PCA Futures Week, a campaign which is dedicated to raising awareness of cricketers transitioning into a second career.

Gareth retired 3 years ago after a 15 year career. Alongside his playing and training commitments as a cricketer Gareth studied a CIM marketing degree and has continued developing within marketing since.

Gareth commented:

“It was great to be back with the PCA team who helped me so much through my career and advised me on my transition since retiring.  To talk through my experiences with the current cricketers and others who have similar transitional stories was refreshing. Understanding there is not one correct pathway for players was very evident, but the transferable skills and qualities of a professional sportsperson are extremely valuable in a work environment.

I was very fortunate to have a clear plan of what I wanted to do after cricket once I started mixing studying with work experience. Injury sometimes can give you a greater foresight into how life may look without the sport you give up so much for.  I’m extremely grateful for Gen2  who provided me the opportunity to continue to develop alongside a successful and rapidly growing business.

Check out a snap shot from the two days below.

After 40 short years in the insurance industry our Offshore & Marine stalwart Mick Wood is sadly retiring. Mick has been a pivotal part of the OMIS team for the past 10 years, providing a first-class service to all our clients.

Mick celebrated his 70th birthday and his retirement last week with a great social send-off enjoyed by all his close friends, family, current and former work colleagues.

Mick is now looking forward to spending afternoons watching Coventry rugby and his ever-eventful travels around the globe. His warm personality and love of food will be sadly missed in the office and across the Gen2 Group, not to mention the café next door!

We caught up with Mick to ask him about his long career, moving with the pace of a changing industry and how he has planned his well-earned retirement.
